This week's pick was Dorie's White Chocolate Brownies, as chosen by delightful Marthe of Culinary Delights. Now certain people have been waiting for these brownies to be chosen forever, so I hope everyone else enjoyed them as much as I did!
You'll notice my brownies are naked. I just wasn't up for meringue this week and I was sure that it would make them too sweet for me anyway. As it was, I could have easily devoured my half batch in one sitting!
I used frozen raspberries here (the fresh ones are ridiculously expensive even in season) and had no problems. Knowing they tended to underbake, I cooked mine for 30 minutes (I used and 8 x 8 pan) and they were perfect.
Thanks for a fabulous pick, Marthe! The white chocolate, raspberries and orange flavours were a match made in baking heaven. I will definitely be making these again!
Your brownies turned out perfectly - just like the picture! I think you were wise to leave off the meringue - it is just too much, and hides the brownies so you can't tell if they are cooked or not.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous site, I will be back to visit regularly and will definately try the brownies!Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWow, yours look so much better since they're meringue-less! Glad they were a hit for you!
ReplyDeleteThat looks amazingly like the original shot on Dorie's book. Glad that you liked the recipe in the end. I did away with the meringue too and it wasn't half bad. Would have died of sugar overdose otherwise. haha.
ReplyDeleteActually, I did not notice there was no meringue until I read your post. The powdered sugar fooled me. And I like the look much better. Very nice!
ReplyDeleteThey look perfect without the topping! If I make these again, I'm definitely skipping the meringue.
ReplyDeleteYou did everything right even without the meringue. I left the meringue off also.
ReplyDeleteYours is the first one, I have seen that looks like the photo even without the meringue.
Beautiful brownies.
ReplyDeleteI agree with 'a match made in heaven'. They were delish!
ReplyDeletePretty, even without the meringue! And this way it's much easier to test the done-ness of the brownies!! Thanks for baking with me this week!
ReplyDeleteI I agree - these look just like Dorie's! They were so hard to shoot - great fun to make. I liked the meringue but glad those who didn't left it off. Beautiful brownies!
ReplyDeleteSimple and lovely! I think there are many ways to enjoy this cake - if the centre's cooked. ::g::
ReplyDeleteYum, your brownies look great!! I love these as well -- and also skipped out on the meringue!!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job on the brownies! I want to try it. Hopefully, mine will be as successful as yours.
